Sony has unveiled which digital games saw the most downloads from the PlayStation Store last year, as reported on their official PlayStation Blog. The reveal shows that amongst the expected chart-toppers, a few unexpected titles have captured gamers' attention.
"Hogwarts Legacy" led the charge as the most downloaded game on both US and EU charts. Other predictable leaders included "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3", "EA Sports FC 24", and "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" — no surprises for their high rankings.
Yet, a couple of titles managed to shake things up. "Diablo 4" and "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" broke into the top 10 in both the US and EU, an impressive feat. Moreover, the US charts saw "Mortal Kombat 1" edge into prominence, while "Assassin's Creed Mirage" claimed the tenth spot in the EU.
But the standout success story is "Baldur's Gate 3", grabbing the seventh spot in both regions. Its presence is a testament to the growing demand for complex role-playing games on consoles, likely boosted by the PlayStation 5's version's commendable quality.
The blog also highlighted the cream of the crop for PSVR 2 games. The multiplayer shooter "Pavlov" snagged the top position in both the US and EU. Meanwhile, the rhythm game "Beat Saber" and immersive "Kayak VR" also saw significant success.
As for free-to-play games, both regions shared similar favorites. Titles like "Fortnite", "Roblox", "Call of Duty: Warzone", "Fall Guys", and "Apex Legends" dominated the top 5. However, the EU's choices showed distinct tastes, with "eFootball 2024" and "Trackmania" making strong showings as highly downloaded free options.
